Add the patient's NHS number to the medical record
- A patient must have an NHS number to use C the Signs.
- This is also required to utilise the e-Referral Service [eRS] to book an appointment for the referral.
- If the patient does not have an NHS number, the best approach is to follow the BMA guidance below on patient registration.
Allocate a temporary NHS number
- Alternatively, you can add a temporary NHS number by opening the patient record and clicking on the 'Edit patient details' button in the bottom right corner.
- You can allocate the patient the NHS number 111 111 1111 (if not already taken by another test patient in the practice). This can be replaced when a genuine NHS number becomes available.
You may need to contact the secondary care clinic directly to book the patient an appointment.
